SouthStar Communities, the developer of King Oaks, has partnered with non-profit Operation FINALLY HOME to help build mortgage-free, custom homes for wounded veterans and their families. To date, SouthStar has provided 10 homesites to the cause, with three wounded veterans receiving mortgage-free homes in King Oaks, Vintage Oaks and Lake Ridge.
Since 2005, Operation FINALLY HOME has partnered with developers, builders and donors to provide mortgage-free custom homes to wounded veterans and the widows of fallen soldiers. The program was founded by Bay Area homebuilder Dan Wallrath after he helped a friend’s son renovate his home to meet his new needs as a wounded veteran. In 2010, Wallrath was honored as one of CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of the Year and has since expanded the program to a national level. In December 2013, CNN aired a feature on Operation FINALLY HOME, profiling a couple of SouthStar Communities’ veteran residents.
