Emergency Services Day Recap
King Oaks neighbors enjoyed lunch from Mallett Brothers BBQ and participated in a series of informative presentations on Saturday, October 15 at the Fishing Pond Pavilion. Those in attendance were the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, the Texas A&M Forest Service, representatives from St. Joseph's Hospital, County Sheriff Don Sowell, Lieutenant Daniel Wagnon, County Commissioner Chad Mallett and Iola Superintendent Chad Jones along with volunteers from Iola high school.
Some of the presentations covered were:
• Fire safety tips for residents in rural communities
• Current ambulance services and opportunities for improvement in Grimes County
• Community safety tips
The kids had the opportunity to meet the Fire Department and tour the fire trucks, decorate pumpkins and participate in other fun fall activities.
Residents of King Oaks generously donated 12 large bags of school supplies to the Iola Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year. Donations were dropped off at the home of Superintendent Chad Jones who graciously took them to the school to be distributed. Superintendent Jones thanked the community in person at the Emergency Services Day recently held at King Oaks and described the day he delivered the supplies to the school; ‘before it was over the entire elementary office looked like a store of school supplies’. Thank you to all residents who helped fill this need.
